In an extensive test, the British magazine Yachting Monthly played through some „worst case“ scenarios with a French series-production yacht. The final test results in the here shown gas explosion, which demonstrates clearly the dangers emanating through gas aboard a yacht.

Through the evaluation of the result over an annual average, we have compensated our carbon dioxide footprint through appropriate payments. This is our way to contribute to environmental protection. Our compensation payments are used in the international emission trading as well as environmental programmes.

Successful sea trial for ATALANTA

After 6 months in the shed, Atalanta was launched again in Rostock mid-May. After some smaller remaining works had been done in the marina, a first two weeks sea trial followed. Starting in Rostock, the route led to Gedser and Klintholm, then to Rödvig and back to Rostock again. In marina Gedser last works had been done for optimizing the rigging, which underwent a first test later on the way to Mön under hard winds. Taken advantage of storm and bad weather, the yacht was hauled out once more at a local shipyard in Klintholm, in order to exchange two old drain pipes against some stainless steel ones, as they had been showing a leak with strong heel. During the trip all systems could be tested in full operation. In order to ensure a secure and dependable use of the yacht in future the yacht also got some fine tuning. On the return trip the rigging and the sails were tested beyond their normal use once more due to strong winds. Under fully set sails different courses were taken in order to check the pressure on the rigg and the conduct of the yacht under breaking waves. On the return trip from Gedser to Rostock a permanent average speed of 8.5 kts. with a maximum speed of 9.8 kts. could be logged.

The Society of Consulting Marine Engineers and Ship Surveyors has admitted Jendrik Odenwald as surveyor and consultant for yacht building. The SCMS was founded in London in 1920 and is regarded as the oldest exisiting organisation of consulting marine engineers and surveyors. The SCMS is represented worldwide and offers one of the biggest networks of surveyors.
